Your Trainer: Mat Shields

Qualifications: Cert III/IV Fitness/Personal Training, ISKA Level 2 National Kettlebell Sport (GS) Coach,ASCA level 1 Strength and Conditioning Coach, Russian Kettlebell Instructor,Registered Nurse( Grad Cert Emergency).

Sporting Background: Mat Currently competes in Girevoy Sport (Competitive Kettlebell Lifting) and competes both nationally and internationally on a regualar basis. He also trains heavily in old school weight lifting. His other interests have been competing in Judo state championships, Kyokoshin (Full Contact Karate), Archery and Mountain Bike Riding and physical culture history.

 

Hello and welcome to my kettlebell website. Traditional Style Russian Kettlebell training is a unique and complete exercise system that emphasises strength, functional-fitness and fat-loss. It has been described by Steve Cotter as "THE MARTIAL ART OF STRENGTH TRAINING". My training methods are not for the faint-hearted kettlebell training will push you to your physical limits.

The humble kettlebell will simultaneously build rugged functional strength with out the bulk that is often associated with strength training. Kettlebell training will give you strength, speed, flexibility, co-ordination and a very keen sense of body awareness.

New to this country is "Girevoy Sport" or (GS). This sport is for those with a competitive streak and who like to challenge themselves. It is arguably one of the most physically and mentally strenuous sports in history. Kettlebell sport in itself is a complete system that will turn the average into the extraordinary, developing perfect timing, explosive strength, strength endurance, flexibility and a "do or die attitude". The recent formation of the "Girevoy Sport Australia Association"

has now linked us to the rest of the world in which we can compete nationally and internationally for official rankings and recognition. Official (GS) meets are held on a regular basis around the country. Also an alternative avenue of training is "Power Juggling" in which the kettlebell is thrown and flipped in various directions for time, its great fun and very effective.

The Russian kettlebell is steeped in history from the golden age of iron men such as Sandow and Saxon to the Russian Special forces or Spetznaz. Through the centuries the kettlebell has been used to forge great strength and athletic ability. Before bodybuilding there was physical culture, in which people relied on their strength and fitness to survive in everyday life. In those days there were no machines/mirrors/gloves or half baked gym programs that insulted your intelligence through miniscule weights and machines. The secret to my training is cold steel and hard work.
